Llanes

llanes-01

Today i would like to share a post written by “where is Asturias” about Llanes.

Llanes is one of the most popular vacation destinations is northern Spain….Discover why!

“The enchanting seaside town of Llanes is one of the most popular, busiest and trendiest Asturian towns for holiday makers.

Llanes though charming in its own right is also very fortunate to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery due to its proximity to the very popular and magnificent Picos de Europa and is also home to some the best beaches in Asturias.

The old town has been declared an historic and artistic site due to its fine classical architecture, the nearby town of Colombres also has some very good examples of Indianos (South American) Architecture.

Asturias underwent large scale emigration towards end of the nineteen century and the beginning of the twenty century. Destinations included Central America, especially Cuba, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela and the US. The emigrants brought with them back a very cosmopolitan and American design of architecture. You will find this characteristic design in magnificent buildings throughout Llanes, Colombres and the surrounding villages.

Llanes offers an impressive selection of outdoor activities due to its surroundings with many sporting activities available such as surfing, golf, water sports, trekking, climbing, adventure sports, etc.

Within the town there are two beaches but Llanes also has in its surroundings 56 km of coastline filled with some of the most beautiful in Asturias. They are long and white sandy beaches surrounded by very impressive and rugged scenery.

Llanes lies at the foot of the stunning Picos de Europa which offer plenty of activities to do and scenery that will take your breath away.  b

The local gastronomy is a mix of both traditional and modern Asturian food. Being a fishing Port, Llanes offers of delicious fish and seafood daily and it has a wide variety of local cheeses and desserts.  The town’s restaurants pride themselves on serving only the very best ingredients to their customers”

Luarca is a small town in Asturias and this year has been voted the most beautiful town of Spain by the newspaper “20 minutes”. With only 4000 inhabitants Luarca is one of the most visited places of Asturias.

Hidden on the Asturian coast, Luarca is a quiet town of white houses which preserves all the charm and attraction of its seafaring tradition.

Built around an S-shaped cove sitting between sheer cliffs, the historic quarter of Luarca, its promenade and the port are all worth visiting. A small river divides the town in two, although several narrow bridges are there to unite it. Its most characteristic buildings are the lighthouse, the chapel of Atalaya and the cemetery overlooking the sea, cut from the rock by pickaxe and the final resting place of the remains of the Nobel laureate Severo Ochoa, a native of this town. Luarca’s traditional character is reflected in its chigres -old Asturian taverns-, where visitors can learn the art of drinking cider.

What to do in Luarca?

The beauty of its beaches bathed by the Cantabrian Sea and the nature of the area, are the major attractions of the area. Here you’ll find many hiking trails, such as trail around Cape Busto that will lead you through green paths to spectacular cliffs that will leave you speechless.

Luarca is the perfect destination for an escape, leaving aside the stress and indulge yourself.

Planes para el finde?/ Any plans for the weekend?

!Buenos días!

Good morning,

It looks like our prayers have been listened and this weekend is going to be really nice weather…so we better do something special!!!

I propose a plan … (I know that many who read this blog are not from here, but you can save the idea for when you come which  I hope is soon!) …. Lets go to Castrillo de los Polvazares!!! Most of you have probably never heard about this beautiful village next to Astorga (León), in the middle of St. James way. The village, with its cobbled streets and noble houses, has been declared a Historic and Artistic Site and preserves all its vernacular architecture. The red stone and clay of its house fronts are in contrast with the lively colours of the doors and windows: blue, green and white. The Calle Real is the backbone and main street of the village.

It was formerly inhabited by carriers, who made their living by transporting goods from the Meseta to Northern Spain, and vice versa. Their horse-drawn carts used to carry wheat and other cereals to Galicia and Cantabria, where they purchased fish to be sold around Castilla.

Castrillo de los Polvazares is a result of the way of life of the maragatos, and so are the neighbouring villages. All the houses are made of red stone and clay. and next to the main door there are large arched doors for the carts. These doors led to the indoor patios that served as a garage for the carriages. The great width of the streets also has to do with the size of the carts. The cobbling avoided the creation of dirt ruts hindering cart traffic.

The buildings are perfectly preserved and make Castrillo de los Polvazares one of the most visited spots in the region

Besides wonderful vernacular architecture, Castrillo de los Polvazares, is the home of the famous cocido maragato, boasts a delicious cuisine. The cocido (i leave a pic for those of you that doenst know what it is), together with the popular traditions and the preservation of the typical local costumes and the vernacular architecture have contributed to create the general, timeless atmosphere of the village.

Will you come and visit this amazing, timeless town?

Have a great weekend !!!

P.S. If someone wants to tell me about their weekend plans i would love to read it, so please leave me a comment below this post

!Arriba el ánimo!/ Cheer up!

!Estoy harta de este tiempo!

I am sick and tired of this weather!

Yeah….I know what you are all going to say…this is not a way to start a new post…sorry, but i can do anything…this is just how i feel!. After a long winter i feel like having sunny and warm days and instead of that it seems that we are going to need place in Noe´s arc!!!

As i didnt want to get in a bad mood, i  decided to look at a picture of one of the most beautiful beaches in Asturias. This place was one of our discoveries last year…amazing!…a virgin beach surrounded by incredible nature and with only a few restaurants to give food to the still few people that  knows this place.

Bonita, verdad?

Beautiful, isn’t it? so…cheer up. In not long will be warm and we will be able to go and swing in this NATURAL PARADISE!

Beautiful, isn’t it?ImagenImagenImagen
